Poem

This Poem is by George Mordecai Whiting. He would be my fourth uncle. I exists to honor the Confederate soliders on an obelisk in Raleigh, NC in Oakwood cemetery.
I found it also in a book NC Poems By Eugene Clyde Brooks
The book states that George Mordecai Whiting was  born in Raleigh, NC,
February 9th, 1842 the Confederate captain of Company C, North Carolina regiment.
He was wounded and captured at Gettysburg and was in the military prision on
Johnson's Island NY.
He later died from Consumption a few years after is imprisonment.
On his 28th Birthday he died 1870 the same year the obelisk was erected in
Oakwood Cememtery
This is his headstone
